Overview
Fresh air for homes built tight.
Many newer Calgary homes are built very airtight to hold heat through long winters. That is great for comfort and bills, but it means stale air, moisture and cooking smells have fewer ways to leave. A heat recovery ventilator, or HRV, solves that by swapping stale indoor air for fresh outdoor air, while passing heat from one stream to the other.
To do its job, the HRV pushes air through a core and a pair of filters. When those get dusty, the exchange slows down. You get less fresh air, more condensation on windows and a home that can feel stuffy by February.
HRV cleaning is included free with our $220 furnace and duct cleaning.

Why it matters
What you get from a clean system.
Real fresh air
A clean HRV can exchange air the way it was designed to, so your home feels less stuffy.
Moisture control
Steady ventilation helps manage the humidity that causes window condensation.
Keeps the heat you paid for
A clean core recovers heat better, so fresh air arrives warmer.
HRVs and Calgary winters
On the coldest days, the HRV's defrost cycle works hard to keep the core from freezing. A dusty core and blocked filters make that harder. Outside, the intake hood can collect frost, snow or leaves, cutting off fresh air entirely. Checking both sides of the system once a year keeps the fresh air coming through January and February, when you need it most.
