Every hot shower fills your bathroom with steam. The exhaust fan's job is to move that moist air outside before it settles on mirrors, walls and ceilings. Over time, the grille and fan blades collect a fuzzy layer of dust and lint that slows the fan down and makes it louder.
In Calgary, the fight with moisture is worth winning. Warm, damp air meeting cold exterior walls and ceilings in winter is a recipe for condensation, peeling paint and, left long enough, mould.

If your fan still struggles after cleaning, the duct to the outside may be crushed or disconnected in the attic, and we will let you know if we see signs of that. Basement bathrooms in newer developments often benefit the most, since they have no window to help clear steam.
